Johnnie Liliedahl: Floral Bouquet Vol. 2

BEGINNER LEVEL

The woman in the frame is a reproduction of the painting by Fernand Toussaint (1873-1955) entitled "The Japanese Print." I selected it because it provided "M'Lady" either in portrait or perhaps in the reflection of a mirror in the frame. A viewer standing in front of the bouquet could easily have seen the woman on the other side of the room. If a mirror is suggested, however, a slight indication of reflection of the closest yellow rose must also be indicated at the lower right of the frame.

NOTE: Recommended viewing prior to attempting this project: D-4, Floral Still Life DVD by J. Liliedahl.
This painting was executed entirely from life. An alla-prima technique was used so the painting could be completed in as short a period as possible. When flowers are part of the setup, their life span is quite limited, especially when they are illuminated by a closely placed light, as was the case in this composition.
For a demonstration of these techniques, D-4, Floral Still Life DVD by J. Liliedahl, is available.
